The Arusha Region has no blood bank of its own. Today the nearest facility is roughly 100 km away, which means that a mother haemorrhaging after childbirth, a child with severe malaria or a casualty from the Arusha–Moshi road waits on blood that has to travel.

We are building the region's first blood bank in partnership with Mt. Meru Regional Hospital and the Regional Commissioner's Office. Total cost is over TZS 600 million (USD 250,000+). Construction has passed roofing and reached plastering; TZS 342 million of works remain.

Premature babies born in Arusha were being lost to problems that equipment can solve. The club raised TZS 70 million (USD 30,000) worth of machines and equipped the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit at St Elizabeth Hospital.

The unit is running. The club remains involved through post-project support and monitoring, evaluation and learning — because donated equipment that nobody maintains stops being a gift within a year.
